💛 Making People Smile – A Little Kindness Goes a Long Way
Making People Smile began during Covid with one simple idea: to brighten someone’s day when they need it most. Since then, it has grown into a small but powerful local kindness project that continues to lift spirits across Hadleigh and beyond.
Anyone can message the page to nominate a friend, relative, colleague, neighbour anyone who could use a smile. I then send them a handwritten card with a simple message:
“You were nominated to receive this to make you smile.”
Over the past five years, this little idea has reached thousands of people:
🎄 Over 1,000 Christmas cards delivered to all five Hadleigh care homes
đź’› Around 1,500 cards sent to people in hospital or struggling with their mental or physical health
🏥 Recently, 14 cardsent to patients and staff on a ward at WSH
🎗️ A special card sent to a mum facing the heart-breaking anniversary of her daughter’s birthday
Every card is personal, thoughtful, and sent with genuine care because sometimes a small gesture is exactly what someone needs to feel seen, supported, and less alone.
The service is completely free. A lot of it has come from my own pocket over the years, but thanks to the kindness of others, I’ve recently received donations of cards and stamps. If anyone ever wishes to donate cards or stamps, they’re always gratefully received and help keep this little project going.

Suffolk Mindful Makers is a fun, creative and inclusive community initiative that explores different crafts and art mediums.
Past sessions have included felting, lino printing, Scandinavian crafts, willow weaving and wreath making.
