About Me

My journey to becoming a counsellor has been shaped through both personal challenge and resilience.

My passion for counselling began with a lifelong desire to help, support and truly listen to others. After completing my undergraduate degree in 2020, my life unexpectedly changed following the first lockdown when I became significantly impacted by symptomatic hypermobility. After a long and difficult five year journey, I was diagnosed with a mixed connective tissue disorder.

During this period, I channelled my energy into retraining in counselling and psychotherapy. What began as a new direction soon became both a personal and professional lifeline, giving me a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper understanding of the emotional impact that illness, uncertainty and loss can have on a person’s life.

These experiences gave me profound insight into grief, identity loss and personal suffering, strengthening both my empathy and commitment to supporting others through difficult periods in their own lives.

Today, I offer a person centred counselling approach in Kendal, working alongside each individual with warmth, empathy and respect. I believe in the importance of truly listening and meeting people where they are, helping them explore their experiences and move forward in a way that feels right for them.

My aim is for every person I work with to feel seen, understood, supported and valued throughout their therapeutic journey.

Eve Jones - Art Psychotherapy

About me...

Hi, I'm Eve Jones, I am an Art Psychotherapist recently moved to Suffolk - hoping to support my community.

I have 10 years of experience of working with individuals with mild to complex mental health issues having been based in secondary mental health care services for the bulk of my career. My specialisms include supporting individuals with eating disorders, trauma, bereavement and loss.  I am passionate about working with neurodiverse individuals and have found that art therapy has been really helpful when working with this population as art therapy can support with communication and offer a safe space where there is less emphasis on verbal communication alone.

I believe therapy is about building a safe relationship from which can be used as a jumping off point - helping you to develop kindness and compassion for yourself, to process experiences,  gain insight into behavioural patterns and learn about how these inform and nuance life. I work collaboratively with individuals to support them to be empowered to find their own answers - art making can play a pivotal role in this!

Being a therapist is so much more to me than a job, and it is the greatest privilege to be able to do this work. As well as an Art Psychotherapist, I am trained as a CBT therapist too.

Outside of work I am very creative and love to collage and patchwork, I enjoy exploring new places, wild swimming and am a really bad gardener but am committed to learning !

What is art psychotherapy?

What is art psychotherapy?

Art psychotherapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art media as its primary mode of expression and communication.

Who can engage?

All ages can participate. A willingness and openness to using art making is helpful although not essential - sometimes one might choose not to make and words are also enough.

Art psychotherapy can support those who might not have benefitted from verbal therapies and can be a stepping stone towards this.

I use a psychodynamic approach which is a psychological approach that explains human behaviour, emotions, and personality by focusing on the unconscious mind, early childhood experiences, and interpersonal relationships. This was of working is especially useful when working with trauma memories that become difficult to access with words alone.

Do I need to be good at art?

No, art therapy isn’t an art class where you will be critiqued on the mastery of skills. There is no right or wrong way to do art therapy.

Art making can be used as a tool for self- expression to assist you in your enquiry of self-discovery.

What I offer

A confidential and safe space.

1:1 sessions - 50 minutes with unlimited access to art materials.

An art psychotherapy group: For adults meeting once a month last 1.5 hours with unlimited access to art materials.

How art psychotherapy helps?

  • Facilitates the expression of emotion.

  • Facilitates catharsis.

  • Reveals aspects of the unconsciousness.

  • Facilitates rich and deep expressions.

  • Supports verbal communication.

  • Symbolization—a form of inner representations in visual images.

  • Trauma processing – externalising trauma memory in a controlled and safe way.

  • Art making can mediate between the internal world and the external world and provides a concrete way of looking at something – it invites curiosity and takes away pressure around knowing what to say – helping to facilitate a dialogue.
